Event overview
Department of Art Public Talks Programme Summer 2016 welcomes artist Josephine Pryde to Goldsmiths.
Contemporary Art Talks: Josephine Pryde
Josephine Pryde, artist, or photographer, or both? What kind of question is this? In a pair of exhibitions in 2012, followed by a publication in 2015, Pryde deliberately highlighted herself as a practitioner of photography, while allowing associations with a somewhat antiquated pursuit for ladies to remain in the titles she selected for the work. Her two most recent exhibitions have linked photographs of hands with texts and texting, as well as including a miniature train for visitors to ride through the show. In May 2016, Pryde will be visiting London with some students from the University of the Arts, Berlin, where she currently holds a Professorship in 'Contemporary Art and Photography'. Her talk at Goldsmiths will form one element of the 'Back End/Front End' tour programmed for the students on that trip.
Pryde’s recent solo exhibitions include lapses in Thinking By the person i Am at the ICA Philadelphia and CCA Wattis Institute, San Francisco, both 2015; These Are Just Things I Say, They Are Not My Opinions, Arnolfini, Bristol; Knickers, Berlin, Temnikova & Kasela, Talinn, Estonia, both 2014. PHOTOGRAPHS YOU TAKE Josephine Pryde, THE SCHTIP, Sheffield; Frau Prüde zu Dr. Loch und Frau Sxxxx zu Dr. Ernst, Galerie der Stadt Schwaz, Austria, both 2013; Night Out, Simon Lee Gallery, London; Miss Austen Enjoys Photography, Kunstverein Düsseldorf, Germany; Miss Austen Still Enjoys Photography, Kunstverein Bern, Switzerland, all 2012. In 2015, Josephine Pryde published a comprehensive monograph with JRP|Ringier: The Enjoyment of Photography.
