Goldsmiths Literature Seminar: Guest Speaker

Lizzie Thynne made the first documentary about this remarkable couple who were stepsisters, lovers and collaborators and has written widely about their work. They were the only surrealists to translate their artistic experiments into a form of concrete resistance - in their ingenious counter-propaganda campaign against the German Occupation of Jersey, 1940 - 44.

Thynne discusses the research that went into the production of the film, Playing a Part. The story of Claude Cahun (AHRC funded, 2005) and the creative strategies used to comment on Cahun's practice and the scene of its production including contemporary dance, archive and dramatization.
