Dame Gillian Beer,

‘Plants, Analogy, and Perfection: Erasmus and Charles Darwin in Argument.’

Dame Gillian Beer was King Edward VII Professor of English Literature at Cambridge and more recently the Andrew Mellon Senior Scholar at the Yale Center for British Art.

Among her books are Darwin's Plots, (third edition, 2009) and *Open Fields: Science in Cultural Encounter* (1996). Her forthcoming book *Alice in Space: the sideways Victorian world of Lewis Carroll* will be published by Chicago University Press later this year.
