Accessibility Statement: Library Discovery System

We want you to be able to use our Library Discovery System (LDS) in your own way.

Primary page content

The Discovery System is used for managing your Library record, including loans and requests.

Using the LDS

The LDS (librarysearch2.gold.ac.uk) is provided by SirsiDynix on behalf of Goldsmiths, University of London. We want as many people as possible to be able to use it.

How accessible the LDS is

We know some parts of the LDS aren’t currently fully accessible:

  • Pages cannot be zoomed to make the text bigger without content spilling off the side of the screen
  • Much of the My Account area is not read by screen readers
  • The item request forms are not described properly when using a screen reader and there are issues with navigating them by keyboard

What to do if you can’t access parts of the LDS

You can visit the Library Help Desk or contact us by phone or email and we can make any changes or process requests.

Reporting accessibility problems with the LDS

We’re always looking to improve the accessibility of the LDS. If you find any problems that aren’t listed on this page or think we’re not meeting the requirements of the accessibility regulations, contact library (@gold.ac.uk).

Enforcement procedure

The Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) is responsible for enforcing the accessibility regulations. If you’re not happy with how we respond to your complaint, contact the Equality Advisory and Support Service (EASS).

Technical information about the LDS’s accessibility

Goldsmiths, University of London is committed to making its websites accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 AA standard, due to the non-compliances listed below.

Non-accessible content

The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.

Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations

  • Pages cannot be zoomed without content spilling off the side of the screen. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.4.10 (Reflow). Our supplier is working to address this by Summer 2020.
  • There are issues using the keyboard to navigate request forms and screen readers will not describe them properly. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.3.1 (Info and Relationships) and 2.1.1 (Keyboard). We are looking into a solution for this for June 2020

The following cannot be read by screen readers. These fail WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.3.1 (Info and Relationships). This will be addressed when we implement the next release of the product in June 2020:

  • Most data in the My Account, including checkouts data
  • My Account Current Fines and Blocks table
  • Many areas in the My Account Holds table
  • My Account Holds date pickers are not read when using the Microsoft Edge browser

How we tested this website

Our supplier has tested the functionality of the product for WCAG 2.1 AA in April 2019.

As part of the project to introduce this system for December 2019, Goldsmiths tested the colour contrast and keyboard focus which we control using our style sheets.
