Here are details of what our different collections are and where to find them.

For ease of finding the collections we call the front section of the building the IT side and the back section of the building the Library side.

Main Library Collection

The Main collection includes items that cover the Library's main subject strengths - creative and performing arts, humanities, social sciences and education.

Dewey Numbers 000-699 are on the 1st floor Library side

Dewey Numbers 700-999 are on the 2nd floor Library side

Main Library Collection (Oversize and Folio)

These are larger books which are in the main collection but shelved in separate sequences due to their size. They will have ‘Q’ (Quartos), ‘F’ (Folio) and ‘E’ (Elephant) before the Dewey number on their spine.

Audio-visual

The Audio-visual section contains DVDs, Blu-Ray, VHS, CDs, vinyl and audio cassettes, as well as slides.

School Practice

The main aim of the Collection is to help students on teaching practice by providing books and other materials for use in the classroom and lesson preparation. The collection consists of books, audio-visual and other multi-media material.

Music Scores

Our music scores collection includes scores, miniature scores and folio scores.

Journals

The library holds around 300 printed journals and magazines and provides access to over 7,000 online journals through various databases and subscriptions.

Newspapers

The library has print copies of the Financial Times and The Economist. We also offer access to a wide range of current and historical newspapers including national, international and regional titles from the Aberdeen Evening Express to The Yorkshire Freeholder and everything in between.

Theses

A single copy of all Goldsmiths PhD (doctoral) theses is deposited in the library, in the same year that they are awarded. Digital versions of recent theses are available on Goldsmiths Research Online research.gold.ac.uk

Available by asking in Special Collections or at the Library Help Desk on the ground floor Library side or via research.gold.ac.uk/view/type/thesis.
Reference collection

Our reference sections are not available for loan but can be used in the library.

As well as reference sections on the 1st and 2nd floors other reference only copies of books have a yellow band round them and are Reference books can be identified by the 'R' at the end of the class number on their spines.

Pamphlet collection Pamphlets which are mostly exhibition catalogues. 2nd floor Library side after the oversize section
Rod Fisher Archive This collection is related to studies covered by the Institute for Creative and Cultural Entrepreneurship. 2nd floor Library side
Art Writing College (Special Collections) Art writing books, mostly held in Oversize with some distributed throughout main collection. 2nd floor Library side
Kathy Rae Huffman collection Media art books. 2nd floor Library side and in the Arts Journal room
Fairhurst (Special Collections) Art books from Angus Fairhurst’s personal collection, distributed throughout main collection. 2nd floor Library side
Pavlowitch collection (Special Collections) Balkan history books, the majority held within Special Collections some in the general collection. 1st and 2nd floor Library side
Audiobooks Books you can listen to. 1st and 2nd floor Library side
Games Library

A PS4, PS4 games and open access Games Library console which can be borrowed during staffed library opening times.
