After Art School offers mentorship and careers guidance for post-graduation, designed for undergraduate students and alumni.

Primary page content

After Art School is a development programme at Goldsmiths, designed to demystify career pathways and offer practical, supportive insights and tools for life after graduation.

In collaboration with the Goldsmiths Careers Service and the School of Art, this programme offers a combination of online webinars and in-person workshops, scheduled for each term.

These sessions are tailored to graduating or recently graduated emerging artists and provide them with accessible knowledge and resources needed to transition from art school to professional life.

Further information

  • Students and alumni gain valuable skills to navigate the beginning of their career through workshops such as: creating an artist CV, building an artist website, and regular CV clinics.
  • Throughout the year, students are provided with support through a public programme of talks, resources and social media content. A key highlight of the programme includes connecting with Goldsmiths alumni who share their personal post-graduation experiences at the Alumni panel.
  • The programme also features insights from industry leaders. Recently, we welcomed Julie Lomax, CEO of a-n The Artists Information Company and a group of undergraduates visited Wellcome Trust to speak with specialist Conservators, who offered expert advice and guidance.
  • The programme shares insights into navigating art spaces and opportunities, understanding different types of exhibitions spaces, starting independent projects and applying for open calls, residencies, and competitions.

After Art School is dedicated to helping our emerging artists find confidence and clarity in the next steps of their creative career by putting them in direct conversation with industry leaders, our alumni, and by providing them with resources and one-to-one mentoring.

Other programmes in which we provide opportunities for students to build experience include Schools Studio Programme, A Particular Reality, our Junior Fellow Programme and our annual Art Summer School for people aged 16–18 years.

Our degree shows are supported each year by the Degree Show ‘Crew’ who support the Exhibitions & Studios Team in preparing and building the exhibition spaces for both the undergraduate and postgraduate shows. All of these programmes are supported by student ambassadors who gain invaluable experience and expertise in working with young people and collaborate in professional or semi-professional settings.
