Goldsmiths Writers’ Centre presents
Wendy Jones and Anna Furman reading from their new books,
followed by a reception for new and continuing creative writing students

Wendy Jones has an MA in Life Writing from UEA and a PhD from Goldsmiths. She has written three works of non-fiction: Portrait of the Artist as a Young Girl, the biography of Grayson Perry (2007); Everyone Needs Money in Case they Don't Die: Intimate Conversations about Money (2016) and The Sex Lives of English Women. She has also published two novels, The Thoughts and Happenings of Wilfred Price; Purveyor of Superior Funerals (2012) and The World is a Wedding,(2014), as well as a children's book, The Fairytale Princess: Tales from the Enchanted Forest. Her work has been published in eleven languages.

The Sex Lives of English Women, published in July, is a collection of interviews with 24 women talking about their experiences of sexuality. Wendy will speak about why she wrote the book and the challenges writers face when embarking on a new piece of writing.

Anna Furman was born in London to Spanish and Italian parents. She taught English as a Foreign Language in the UK and Japan and is currently teaching Academic Skills at Roehampton University. Having completed her MA in Creative and Life Writing at Goldsmiths in 2012, she recently launched her first novel, Haruka. Her second novel, an exploration of the life and legacy of a refugee, is in progress.

Described as ‘a dark romance that twists towards the light’, Haruka begins with the arrival in London of a glamorous young woman from Tokyo. Lawrence Leyland’s life is turned upside down when she moves in with him. And when she later disappears, his subsequent breakdown offers him the chance for some self-reflection. But will he take that chance?
