Re-Calibrating the Classics : a reading and discussion. Speakers are Michael Schmidt, Philip Terry and Jenny Lewis.

Re-Calibrating the Classics: a reading and discussion. Michael Schmidt of Carcanet Press discusses approaches to translating ancient texts and introduces two new versions of the Epic of Gilgamesh, 'Gilgamesh Retold', by Goldsmith's PhD student, Jenny Lewis and 'Dictator' by Philip Terry. How can one poem speak in such different voices and authorise such different responses?

The event will be followed by a drinks reception and private view of Jenny's 'Touching Mesopotamia' exhibition, in the Kingsway Corridor.
