How can public pedagogy engage with the discourses of capitalism?

Speaker: Dr Christian Chun, University of Massachusetts, Boston

GoldLingS: new research in linguistics

Dr Christian Chun discusses the ways in which a critical public pedagogy needs to be developed to engage with what Antonio Gramsci has called the "common sense" of everyday people in their understandings and discussions of what capitalism means to them and their lived experiences. What are these specific discourses of capitalism people co-construct, and how would a critical public pedagogy work to contest and dismantle these hegemonic discourses with the aim of mobilizing people's "good sense" about fairness, justice, and equality?

GoldLingS seminars are open to all staff and students.
