Event overview
What is the link between a child's fragile brain, head injuries, drug addiction, criminality and reoffending?
This talk will tackle the important issue of how fragile a child's developing brain is such that head injuries, brain damage and drug taking can have very serious negative consequences. This can include a connection with criminality in adulthood which could be an underlying factor for the massive rate of 'recidivism' or reoffending - about 50% of ex-offenders reoffend within one year of release and with it costing something like £50,000 to keep someone in prison for a year, it is clear that the criminal justice system is not working sufficiently to reduce criminality.
