Goldsmiths' Writers Centre presents...Spread the Word about life writing!

This event celebrates the art the life writing, and the Spread the Word Life Writing Prize, in association with Goldsmiths Writers’ Centre, which was established in 2016 thanks to a generous donation from Joanna Munro; Professor Blake Morrison is its Patron. Claire Lynch was Highly Commended for the Prize in 2017; now she has published Small: On Motherhoods, which Bernardine Evaristo has called “original, important, moving, funny — quite a feat.” Xanthi Barker was Highly Commended for the Prize in 2018, and her memoir is Will This House Last Forever? On Losing a Father — a reckoning with her relationship to her late father, the poet Sebastian Barker. “It felt such a privilege to read this book,” wrote Daisy Johnson. “Raw, devastating, beautifully formed. Let’s keep our eye on Barker.” We will keep our eye on both these writers — and discuss what it means to examine one’s own life in memoir.

Speakers: Xanthi Barker and Claire Lynch

Chaired by Ruth Harrison of Spread the Word
