Event overview
Justice must not only be done but seen to be done. That’s an established principle of our legal system, but every year, many people appear in courts under a veil of secrecy. For decades, journalists have called for less secrecy and recent landmark rulings have opened up more courts to the public.
Joining this Media Forum are two journalists at the forefront of the campaign for more open justice.
* Sanchia Berg, formerly on BBC staff, has reported for years on how important family court cases are heard behind closed doors.
* Tristan Kirk, courts correspondent for the Evening Standard and winner of last year’s Paul Foot Award for investigative journalism, has exposed how criminal courts have become more secretive.
* Senior lecturer Terry Kirby will chair the panel.
