Award-winning documentary filmmaker Natasha Cox joins MCCS’ Tassia Kobylinska, for a conversation and screenings of clips from her films ; including the multiple award winning Life and Death in Gaza (2024), critically acclaimed investigative film, Perfume's Dark Secret (2024), Crisis Pregnancy Centres Uncovered (2023) and Extinction Rebellion: Last Chance to Save the World? (2019). The discussion will explore documentary practices, trauma informed journalism and participatory film practices and ethics. Natasha started out as a student of BA English and Communications, and her trajectory to award winning documentary filmmaker will be of great interest to students.
Natasha Cox is a filmmaker, known for her films that tackle social issues, human rights, and investigations. She directed 'Life and Death in Gaza' (2024) for BBC Storyville/ BBC Eye, it won a BAFTA and was the most nominated documentary film at the 2025 BAFTA Awards. She also made the critically acclaimed investigative films for BBC, C4 and Arte. She was a researcher alongside MCCS’ Des Freedman and Vana Goblot for the Public Service Television Inquiry in 2016, and contributed written chapters for the book, A Future for Public Service Television, published in 2018.
Tassia Kobylinska is the convenor for UG Documentary and Alternative and Experimental Filmmaking in MCCS. She is a also an award winning filmmaker with a particular interest in trauma informed processes in participatory filmmaking in international aid and INGO contexts. She co-produced the award winning exhibition My Home is Not My Home which toured nationally and internationally 2019 – 2022 with the Voice of Domestic Workers and University of York’s Joyce Jiang. She co-directed the award winning C4 news feature, The Domestic Slaves Rescued from London’s Richest Streets with MCCS’ Professor Sue Clayton in 2023.
