A panel discussion as a part of the celebrating the 10 Years of the Dynamics of Virtual Work Series and the Publication of the 30th Book in the series.

We are delighted to invite you to a special panel discussion on platform capitalism and the gig economy, marking the tenth anniversary of the Dynamics of Virtual Work book series and celebrating the publication of its 30th volume.

Over the past decade, the series has become a leading international forum for critical scholarship on digital labour, platformisation, creative work, and transformations in global capitalism. This event brings together distinguished contributors and editors of the series to reflect on its intellectual trajectory and to discuss emerging challenges in the study of platform-mediated work.

The panel will be introduced by Prof. Rosalind Gill and chaired by Prof. Mirca Madianou.

Speakers:

Professor Ursula Huws (independent scholar), co-editor of the book series and author of numerous books including The Making of a Cybertariat, and Labour in Contemporary Capitalism);

Dr Funda Ustek Spilda (Senior Lecturer in Digital Humanities and South East Asia Lead at King’s College London), expert in gender, care and informality in the gig economy;

Dr Tarek Virani, (Associate Professor of Creative Industries at University of West of England) co-editor of Creative Hubs in Question, and Global Creative Ecosystems (both published in the series),

Professor Sophie Bernard (Sociology, University of Paris-Dauphine) and author of Uberization and Overexploitation: Racial Platform Capitalism in Paris, London and Montreal - the latest book in the series.

Everyone is welcome. Drinks and snacks will be served after the event.
