The Pan-Afrikan Society Community Forum (PASCF) invites you to join us for the 17th Marcus Garvey Annual Memorial Lecture.

Barrister at Law and Chartered Governance Professional
Carnival & Cultural Heritage Management

Dr. Claire Holder is a U.K. born Afri-Trinidadian raised and educated in Trinbago and the U.K. At eleven Claire re-joined her family of origin, living in Notting Hill where she still resides. The local grammar school was followed by the College of Law and qualification as a barrister in 1978. Claire is still a practising barrister with the Crown Prosecution Service.

This profession Claire has combined with continuing education, with deep involvement with the Church (Methodist) and community organisations including The Black Peoples Information Centre, Unity Association, the Notting Hill Carnival Trust and the Notting Hill Carnival Roadshow Co. Dr Claire Holder was Carnival Chair and Chief Executive between 1989 and 2001 developing the Carnival as an award-winning community cultural enterprise with active links to the British Monarchy, and other U.K. state organisations as well as securing sponsorship from major multi-nationals such as Coca Cola, the respect of the artistic disciplines that are the creators of Carnival and which were in receipt of unprecedented financial support and travel opportunities to spread the cultural message of an entity that in that moment embraced the best of Caribbean, West Afrikan and Afri-British Cultural heritage.

Dr Claire Holder will use this opportunity to pay tribute to the great man, Marcus Mosiah Garvey - his life and principles and how his philosophy has influenced her work.

If you are taking a taxi - please head for “The gates next to 4 Barridale, SE14 6NT” - the nearest entrance to our lecture in the Prof Stuart Hall Building is on the road “Barridale” otherwise it is a long walk through the length of the entire campus. You are therefore advised, especially if you have mobility issues, please take take public transport to Shardloes Road; get off bus 171 or 172 at the busstop (H) for St Donnat’s Road, if coming from Lewisham, <or get off busstop (L) for St Donnat’s Road, if coming from Lewisham Way>.
Walk up St Donnat’s Road, take the left fork for the “gates beside 4 Barridale” - press intercom on the gates to contact security to be let in for Marcus Garvey lecture - in the Prof Stuart Hall Building. Take the lift /or stairs to the lower ground.

There is officially no on-site parking.
Very limited on-site disabled parking must be pre-booked with evidence, and subject to approval.

The lecture will take place in the Shireen Abu Akleh Lecture Theatre (LG01) of the Professor Stuart Hall Building, Goldsmiths, University of London, Lewisham Way, London SE14 6NW.
