Digital Media MA Degree Show

Join us for the Private View of the Digital Media MA Degree Show, from 6pm on Thursday 2nd July

sur(render) brings together 'surrender', the giving up of control, and 'render', those digital processes through which images and visual worlds are generated. Across 46 works of moving image, videogames, interactive installations, and other digital forms, this exhibition takes up questions of control and its loss, systems that shape behaviours, AI and algorithmic mediation, identity and self-construction, alienation and soft control (care, comfort, containment), and repetition, feedback, and loops.

To sur(render), is to embrace the glitch — not exactly a failure, distortion, or loss of control, but a moment when something fails to behave as expected, and in doing so opens a crack for critical thought. The diverse works in this exhibition ask how digital and virtual technologies offer something close to a transcendent imaginary: we may feel we are transcending, but are we in fact drifting deeper into the illusions these technologies produce?
