Lecture by Prof. Jules Davidoff
Department of Psychology, Goldsmiths, University of London
Title: Cross-cultural research - the new neuropsychology? - Evidence from the study of perception

Abstract:
One of the major contributions of neuropsychology in the last 40 years has been to bring surprising observations to the attention of experimental psychologists. These observations have led to changes in theoretical positions for the study of normal cognition. It is argued that the same could be true for cross-cultural research. The surprising observations are used not so much to explain the cognition of that culture but to address old questions and offer new approaches to the understanding of our cognition. The "new neuroychology" will be used to provide new directions in perception and its relation to language.
