Join up for one of the HR Policy Briefings being introduced by HR this term to help managers interpret and implement new and existing policies.

'… front line management [and] leadership [play] a pivotal role in terms of implementing and enacting HR policies and practices since it is the front line managers that ‘bring policies to life’ (Hutchinson & Purcell, 2003)

Human Resources is reviewing and/or rewriting all of Goldsmiths HR policies and as part of this initiative, we are introducing a series of regular HR Policy Briefings for those who manage others. To date, successfully approved by Council is the new Performance & Development Review (PDR) policy, the Probation policy and a Dignity at Work policy. The next policies lined up to complete the process of consultation and approval are the Grievance, Disciplinary and Redundancy policies.

Beginning this term, the HR Business Partner teams will be taking turns to organise and deliver the HR Policy Briefings. Using realistic case studies and discussion, participants will explore how these policies can be implemented in practice to help support you in managing performance and motivation in your department.

This first set of briefings will look at all three of the following policies:

Capability & Performance
http://www.gold.ac.uk/hr/policies/capability-performance/

Probation
http://www.gold.ac.uk/hr/policies/probation/

Peformance & Development Review (PDR)
http://www.gold.ac.uk/hr/policies/pdr/

To book, just choose your preferred date and return the completed booking form to Ola Zochowska, Staff Development Assistant at a.zochowska@gold.ac.uk. All briefings run from 12pm to 2pm with lunch included. The venue will be supplied on booking:

• Wednesday 28 April
• Wednesday 2 June
• Thursday 24 June

You might also be interested in attending workshops on Performance Management, Performance & Development Review (PDR), Developing & Motivating Staff and Employment Law. As these are scheduled, they will appear on Staff Development website http://www.gold.ac.uk/staff-development/ Or contact Rody Bristow-Jones, Staff Development Advisor if you would like us to tailor a workshop to the needs of your department.
