Jocelyn Page (Goldsmiths): Inspiration and Practice - talk and workshop on creative writing practice.

Through looking at one writer’s daily practice, we will explore the nature of inspiration:

Can inspiration be conjured up at will?
Can certain environmental conditions promote inspiration?
Is inspiration distinct in the arts and how does it apply to academia, vocation and craft?
Is all inspiration positive, or can evil or be a source of inspiration as well?
What are some ways to successfully maintain inspiration beyond the spark of an original idea?

Jocelyn Page will lead this session, reading a few recent poems, followed by some methods of inspiration that have been fruitful in her practice. Attendees will then participate in a short writing workshop and a discussion, sharing their ideas and experiences on inspiration in their own practice and research.

Jocelyn Page received an MA in Creative & Life Writing from Goldsmiths in 2009 and published her debut pamphlet, smithereens, (the tall-lighthouse press) in April, 2010. She is a PhD candidate in the English and Comparative Literature Department and a creative writing workshop facilitator for Spread the Word.
