Advances in hardware and software are made at a furious rate. Responding to this is a tough challenge that continually forces the games industry to innovate. Pressure is on to stay on top. Game production budgets soar and increasingly complex technologies boost the weaponry. In this talk, we will discuss the current battle plan, closing lines around some of the recent trends in the games industry, and examining the more promising technologies we can add to our arsenal. But no guarantee of success can be offered and your input to the discussion will be welcomed.

Sam Martin
Sam is Head of Technology at Geomerics, a games middleware company responsible for the real time lighting technology, Enlighten. Their technology can be seen in Battlefield 3, Need for Speed: The Run, and Eve Online among many other AAA titles. In his current role, Sam works on expanding and developing the Enlighten product suite, while considering new technologies and research suitable for use in the games and graphics industry. Prior to Geomerics, Sam worked as a game developer across a range of titles from Lionhead, Intrepid and Kuju, building novel technology from within.

Enlighten: Real time radiosity lighting SDK for the games industry, available on all major platforms including PC, XBox360, PS3, CUDA (GPGPU) and soon mobile/tablet devices. Used in Eve Online, Battefield 3, Need for Speed: The Run and other AAA titles.
