Beloved/America/Now

The Department of English and Comparative Literature invites you to a masterclass examining Toni Morrison’s ‘Beloved.’ As well as studying key aspects of the text – including theme, style and structure – the class will raise questions surrounding race and identity in modern America and will explore the repercussions of the past and the historical legacies of oppression that can still be felt in modern America today.
As such, the class will present students with a number of unique readings of the novel while also linking the book to a wide array of cultural and national themes.
