On Thursday 20 March, celebrated author and Professor of Creative and Life Writing, Blake Morrison will be appearing as part of the Made in Goldsmiths series, presenting his lecture Life writing and the writing life.

This event, which will start at 18:00 at the Ben Pimlott Lecture Theatre, will be chaired by Nicholas Wroe, Commissioning Editor of the Review section at The Guardian.

Blake will read from his latest poetry pamphlet, This Poem, reflecting on his career as a writer in different forms (memoir, fiction, drama and poetry), and discussing his interest in bibliotheraphy.

For more information and to book tickets, please see our eventbrite page.

Born in Skipton, Yorkshire, Blake was formerly literary editor of the Observer and the Independent on Sunday. His books include:

two collections of poetry, Dark Glasses and The Ballad of the Yorkshire Ripper
two bestselling memoirs, And When Did You Last See Your Father? (made into a film starring Jim Broadbent and Colin Firth) and Things My Mother Never Told Me
a controversial study of the James Bulger murder case, As If
a children’s book, The Yellow House
a collection of essays and stories, Too True
three novels, The Justification of Johann Gutenberg (2000), South of the River (2007), and The Last Weekend (2010) – the latter recently being dramatised for television

His play adaptations for Northern Broadsides include: The Cracked Poet, Oedipus, Antigone, The Man with Two Gaffers, Lisa's Sex Strike, and, most recently, We Are Three Sisters.

He is a regular contributor to the Guardian and has been professor of creative and life writing at Goldsmiths since 2003.

His latest publications are the poetry collection A Discoverie of Witches (2012) and a pamphlet, This Poem… (2013).

The Made in Goldsmiths series, launched in Spring 2013, has been created to showcase our excellent scholars and find out more about their work. It has been designed with our staff and students in mind, and offers the chance to not only find out more about the work that goes on here, but to meet each other in an informal setting.

Patrick Loughrey, Warden, said: "Every day at Goldsmiths, our staff are researching, discovering and creating. Made in Goldsmiths provides an opportunity for our campus community to find out more about this work, whether it’s a book, research, a film or an exhibition."
