Are we ready for it? Does it work?

Lara Montefiori is a former Goldsmiths student, who is now Head of Psychology at Arctic Shores. Arctic Shores is an innovative tech start-up that is pioneering the use of mobile games in personality assessment. Short of two years since having been funded, Arctic Shores has already secured a great selection of clients, won the Innovate UK “Innovation in Design Award 2015”, and appeared in international news and conferences several times.

Lara’s work is focused on improving the assessment of personality and cognitive abilities by reducing bias from self-presentation, lack of self-insight, and test practice, but also on improving candidate experience. A large-scale survey and a series of experiments showed that game based assessment can address all these areas. Her findings also raise some important questions on whether current test validation protocols are suitable for alternative assessment methods or if we have reached an historical point at which self-reported measures of personality no longer represent the golden standard in personality assessment.

The talk will describe the development of a series of game based assessments, the challenges that were encountered on the way, and the results of the most relevant studies. We will also have a little gameathon, with a special prize for the best player – B.Y.O.D. (bring your own device, for non-millenials)!
