Community cheese making by Ruby Panjwani
BA Design student Ruby Panjwani has built a ‘mobile cheese cave’, encouraging participation, dialogue and hands on interaction with food systems.
Ruby Panjwani has combined her work in cheese maturation with her BA Design degree to develop a mobile cheese maturation device. Her project, Wheels on Wheels, brings the maturation process into public spaces such as cafes and schools.
The project challenges the idea that the cheesemaking process is only for specialists, instead positioning it as a practice that can be shared, taught, and be an encouragement of collective care to foster community relations.

Panjwani used modelmaking, woodworking and 3D printing to build the prototype device, alongside a 1:20 scale model of E5 Bakehouse in Hackney – an example of the type of location that could host the device.
Her work was part of the BA Design Degree Show, The Wild Goose Chase to Catch a Flying Fish, which ran 19 - 23 June at Copeland Park in Peckham.
