Goldsmiths has made an important contribution to the education of the nation's teachers since the early 1900s, and has established a reputation for excellence in teacher training. Excellence in teaching has been recognised by the establishment of the Peake Awards for outstanding teachers. We now have more than 500 full-time students on our PGCE programmes.
The one-year programme and the extended Flexible Programme offer both a Postgraduate Certificate in Education and a Professional Graduate Certificate in Education at primary and secondary level with subject study. The programmes are designed for those who would like to teach in nursery, primary or secondary schools, and include recommendation for the award of the professional qualification, Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
The PGCEs have two exit routes:
Master's (M) Level and Higher/ Professional (H) Level. The Master's Level award is the Postgraduate Certificate in Education; the Higher/Professional Level award is the Professional Graduate Certificate in Education. The Professional Graduate Certificate in Education is worth 120 credits at H level (Primary) and 150 credits at H level (Secondary).
