About RUCPT

The research unit in contemporary political theory brings together staff and doctoral researchers in Politics and International Relations with interests in political ideas, ideologies, philosophies and theories.

Primary page content

We explore how concepts and ideas shape numerous fields – from intellectual history to current politics, from European and extra-European philosophical traditions, and from political critique to public policy.

Our researchers explore a variety of theory-related themes such as anarchism and post-anarchism, political theology, phenomenology and the continental tradition, psychoanalysis, aesthetics, rhetoric, and intellectuals and ideologies in public life.

As well as hosting visiting speakers and running seminars, the unit aims to develop ongoing projects and explore themes relevant to doctoral researchers across the department.

The unit director is Professor Saul Newman, if you have any questions about the unit please free to email him at s.newman (@gold.ac.uk).
