Clyde Chitty BA PGCE PhD FRSA FRHistS
Clyde was Professor of Policy and Management in Education at Goldsmiths and prior to this a teacher of English and History in a number of London Comprehensive Schools between 1966 and1977. He was Vice Principal and then Principal of Earl Shilton Community College in Leicestershire between 1977 and 1985 then Lecturer at the Institute of Education in London between 1985 and 1989. He then became Lecturer, Senior Lecturer and then Reader at the University of Birmingham between 1989 and 1997.
Research interests
The history and politics of education; recent development in policy-making; the implementation of the comprehensive school reform since the early 1960s; curriculum reform – particularly at the secondary level; the teaching of PSHE; ‘NEW’ , gender, sexuality, disability; theories of intelligence and the eugenics movement.
Clyde is External Examiner for the Institute of Education: BEd Degree for Serving Teachers.
