Kuldip's research looks at the politics of race and racisms and the politics of food justice.

Kuldip's research focuses on food and racial justice and the politics of food identities.

She has conducted extensive research in Guatemala, where she previously examined Ladino/non-Indigenous populations and their relations and politics of dominance and race, as well as the experiences of Indigenous communities affected by political violence and armed conflict. She is currently writing on the colonial legacies that shape everyday social relations in Guatemala.

Alongside this, she is conducting new research on the politics of food justice and food sovereignties, both in Guatemala and within a South Asian community in the Midlands, UK.

Teaching and supervision

I am EDI lead for the School of Global Change.

I teach the compulsory modules Anthropology Ideas Today (year 1) and Thinking through Race (year 2) and Individual and Extended Individual Project (year 3).

I supervise students on topics related to race, politics of labour, and food justice. I am interested in supervising students on the themes of race, food justice, and related areas.

Research interests

My current research is twofold: in the UK, it focusses on food cultures and ethnonationalist politics in the Midlands, UK, particularly on the role of Punjabi communities in reshaping British identity and efforts in challenging exclusionary narratives. In Guatemala, my research continues with the Maya-Achi community, with whom I've worked since the 1990s, specifically on their production of amaranth in the context of drought conditions.

Professional projects

I am also a professionally trained naturopathic nutritionist.
