Sophio Medoidze is a Georgian artist and filmmaker working across moving image, photography, performance, and writing.
Sophio Medoidze (b. Tbilisi, Georgia) is a London-based artist and filmmaker working across moving image, photography, performance, and writing. Her work has been shown internationally at institutions including Tate Modern, Serpentine Galleries, Kunsthal Charlottenborg, CAC Centre d’Art Contemporain, LUX, and the Fondation Vincent van Gogh Arles. She was awarded the Sainsbury Scholarship in Visual Arts at the British School at Rome (2024–25). Medoidze’s practice—shaped by post-Soviet migration—explores how images, language, and belonging are transformed by displacement and late capitalism. She works through poetic structures and long-term collaborations, including her feature Let Us Flow (2023), a five-year collaboration with nomadic Tushetian communities. In the early 2000s, she founded the collective Clara Emigrand, staging performative interventions in London. Her bilingual monograph Bastard Sun (DISTANZ) interweaves photography and text to reflect on personal and political change.
