An NCTJ-trained journalist, Ben has written for high-profile traditional and digital titles. He cut his teeth on the frontline of local and national news at the East Anglian Daily Times and Express Newspapers and started covering music at the tail-end of Britpop, contributing reviews to Select, Melody Maker and Q. During the first wave of web publishing, he became news editor at dotmusic, working in various roles for more than a decade and interviewing some of the era’s most distinctive figures, such as Aphex Twin, Beyoncé and Marilyn Manson.

Ben has lectured on BA and MA journalism courses at University of Westminster, LCC and Birkbeck. He has taught at Goldsmiths since 2021, running units connected to news reporting, feature writing, digital publishing and arts and culture. He is a practicing journalist, writing originally reported features at the intersection of impactful pop culture and real-world human interest.
