Centre for Postcolonial Studies Public Engagement and Collaborations

Interdisciplinarity is at the heart of Postcolonialism, and here at the Centre for Postcolonial Studies, we believe that collaboration and forging partnerships are at the core of our work.

Many of the events hosted by the Centre have, by their very nature, brought together a diverse range of scholars, activists, and practitioners around particular themes or issues.

Beyond these singular events, the Centre for Postcolonial Studies has also forged lasting institutional partnerships and collaborations to undertake more sustained public engagement projects, research, publishing and practice-based interventions in postcolonial scholarship and action. Details of some of these collaborations can be found on this page.

CHAINS

The Centre for Postcolonial Studies is part of CHAINS, a project centring the humanities around investigating the normalisation of slavery in the contemporary world.

This is a collaboration with our European partner institutions: Institut d’Etudes Transtextuelles et Transculturelles, Université Jean Moulin Lyon 3; Centro Studi Postcoloniali e di Genere, L’Università degli Studi di Napoli – L’Orientale; Centre for Concurrences in Colonial and Postcolonial Studies, Linnaeus University; Research Platform Gender Studies: Identities – Discourses – Transformations, Innsbruck University.

Art, Politics and Counterculture. The World of Today, a collaboration with Museo Universitario del Chopo (Mexico City)

This was a series of online conversations with artists, thinkers, academics, activists, and politicians worldwide. Our guests addressed the current state of the world, tackling issues such as the impact of the pandemic, challenges related to climate change, the rise of far-right movements, persistent racism and sexism, the declining legitimacy of capitalism as an economic system, new forms of activism and the role of art in imagining other paths for our world. Participants from twelve countries, spanning various generations, political ideologies, and cultural backgrounds, participated in these discussions.

Decolonising Knowledge and Aesthetics with Matadero Madrid

Matadero Madrid and the Centre for Postcolonial Studies at Goldsmiths University, London, started collaborating on a collaborative project in 2012. They aimed to facilitate an exchange between postcolonial theoretical analysis and current artistic practice. The aim was to create an international and transdisciplinary project that brings the University and contemporary Arts institutions together to form a research group. This group's objective was to critically analyse the world and implement this approach into artistic practice.
