After working at the Wellcome Library and enjoying my time there hugely, I decided to apply for the Engagement and Communication Graduate Development Programme.

Today I became a cataloguer! I am cataloguing a documentary called 'Win A Baby', recently aired on More 4. It ties in well with my dissertation topic of eugenics in that it discussed the modern uses of fertility advancements. The documentary was about an IVF lottery, which had recently been launched, in which participants paid twenty pounds for a ticket giving them the chance to win a £25,000 course of IVF treatment. The program was mainly focused on the ethical connotations of the competition.

I would say however, that the main thing I have gained from the Wellcome Library is confidence; I am a relatively shy person and find scenarios where I am faced with meeting lots of new people rather daunting, working at the Wellcome however has made me realise that I am quite capable of holding my own in conversation, and have much improved in pretty much all social situations. I have come to realise that the key to being a good conversationalist is actually being a good listener and to show interest in what you are discussing, this is a skill I think I have learnt well and will continue to use for the rest of my working career.
