I joined Goldsmiths in September 2017 as the Programme Convenor for the Post Graduate Diploma in Social Work (Step-Up). I am a graduate of Goldsmith’s MA in Advanced Social Work (Practice Education) and since 2014 I have taught on two modules of this programme as a Visiting Tutor. I have been a qualified social worker for over 15 years. I have spent most of my working life so far in London. My professional background is in social work with children and families, including child protection, family assessment, court work, fostering and adoption. I worked with children in need, children in need of protection and looked after children first as a Social Worker and later as a Senior Practitioner. I then worked in children’s workforce development where I developed my interest in adult learning. More recently I was the Learning and Development Coordinator and then the Manager of a Local Safeguarding Children Board (LSCB) in South East London.

While working for the LSCB, I was responsible for planning, coordinating, delivering and evaluating an annual multi-agency training programme. I have contributed to developing procedures, good practice guidance and factsheets on topics such as child neglect, domestic abuse, disguised compliance. I have coordinated multi-agency case audits, Serious Case Reviews and a number of awareness campaigns on safeguarding issues including child neglect, self-harm, e-safety, FGM and Forced Marriage. I have worked with students and social workers as a Practice Educator and Practice Development Educator.
