Subjects ranked world-leading in global review

A new analysis shows that Goldsmiths is among the top universities in the world for the study of nine subjects.

The QS World University Rankings by Subject 2025 show that four of our academic subjects are in the top 50 worldwide, with Communication and Media Studies at 22, Performing Arts at 26, Art and Design at 37 and History of Art in the 21-50 grouping.  

The ranking shows that Performing Arts climbed to 26 from 48 last year, a rise of 22 places. A further two academic areas are in the top 100, with English Language and Literature at 97, up from last year’s 101-150 ranking, and Anthropology in the 51-100 grouping. Sociology is placed 101-150, Psychology 301-350 and Education 401-450.  

Overall we have been ranked at 141 for the faculty category of Arts and Humanities, up one place on last year.  

The analysis provides independent comparative analysis on the performance of more than 18,300 individual university programmes, taken by students at more than 1,700 universities in 100 locations around the world, across 55 academic disciplines.
