Update on industrial action

The latest statement on industrial action following discussions with GUCU
A spokesperson from Goldsmiths, University of London says:
"We are extremely disappointed that, despite extensive discussions through ACAS mediation, we have been unable to reach an agreement after the GUCU did not accept our latest offer, which included significant concessions. As a result, some of our staff have decided to continue with industrial action.
"We have engaged in good faith, acting transparently and fairly, to end industrial action as soon as possible. Our latest proposal included a moratorium on compulsory redundancies until the New Year, the introduction of a Voluntary Severance Scheme, aimed at mitigating the need for compulsory redundancies, and we were also prepared to stagger salary reductions for those who had been on strike. In previous discussions, we offered enhanced terms for any colleague who, regrettably, might have to be made redundant.
"Like many UK higher education institutions, we face very significant financial challenges which need to be addressed to ensure future sustainability. We believe this is the strongest package we can responsibly offer and are unable to make further concessions.
"We will continue to offer all our provision to students at the appropriate standard for a Goldsmiths degree.
"We recognise colleagues’ right to take industrial action, but continued disruption risks further impacting students’ education and the university’s hard-earned reputation as a world-renowned academic institution.
"Our door remains open to further talks at any time. Our shared focus must be securing Goldsmiths' long-term future as a leading part of Britain's cultural and creative life."
