Continuing student guide

The new Faculty structure

We have moved from having 18 academic departments to a more streamlined framework to deliver an improved student experience which is consistent across the University.

There are now two academic Faculties which each have four Schools, with Subject Areas sitting in each school.

The Faculty of Creative Arts and Media

  • School of Art
  • School of Design
  • School of Media, Communications and Cultural Studies
  • School of Music, English and Theatre

The Faculty of Society and Innovation

  • School of Computing
  • School of Mind, Body and Society
  • School of Creative Management
  • School of Global Change

What this means for you

Your programme, modules, lecturers, and cohorts remain unchanged, and you will still study with the same people on the same programme you enrolled on and timetabling will remain the same. However, you will now benefit from:

  • More consistency: By organising programmes in the same way across the university, it will be easier to find the right support and get clear, timely information.
  • Better support: The new structure helps staff work in focused teams, which means they can spend more time supporting students.
  • New opportunities: Being part of a School means more chances to connect with students and staff in related subjects, opening up opportunities for collaboration across disciplines.
  • Student input: Students were directly involved in shaping the new Schools, so your views helped guide how the changes look and feel.
