Shanghai Theatre Academy is one of China’s foremost higher-education institutions specialising in the performing arts. Building on 80 years of teachings, the STA offers unparallel training in acting, directing, theatre literature, stage design, dance, film & television, and new media arts. The institution is recognised for its high-level academic and research programmes, and its contribution to shaping China’s theatre, television and dance industries.
Overview of Partnership
Goldsmiths and STA have established a dual-degree partnership that enables students to combine STA’s postgraduate training in performing and creative arts with Goldsmiths’ expertise in theatre, performance and cultural practice. Under this arrangement, students on the STA MFA Musical Theatre degree will be able to apply to Year 2 of the MA Musical Theatre degree at Goldsmiths before returning to STA to complete their studies. Upon successful completion of both components, students will receive degrees awarded by both STA and Goldsmiths.
This partnership builds on both institutions’ commitment to creative innovation, rigorous professional practice and global connectivity in the arts. Students benefit from STA’s specialist performance and design training in China and from Goldsmiths’ creative, critical and research-led environment in the UK, equipping them with internationally relevant skills and credentials in the competitive fields of theatre, film, performance and cultural production.
