The award-winning writer delivers the 2025 New Statesman/Goldsmiths Prize Lecture, asking whether the novel is still ‘the one bright book of life’.

The lecture will be followed by the announcement of the 2025 Goldsmiths Prize shortlist.

As part of Goldsmiths’ 120th anniversary year, a special reception takes place in the House of Lords, on the evening of 13 November 2025 hosted by former Chair of Council and Goldsmiths honorand, The Right Honourable Baroness Caine of Kentish Town CBE.

The event brings together parliamentarians, alumni, staff, and supporters to celebrate Goldsmiths’ distinctive legacy of creativity, critical thinking, and social impact.

Baroness Caine, Vice-Chancellor Professor Frances Corner OBE, composer and Goldsmiths alumna Errollyn Wallen CBE, and Tom Sleigh, Chair of Council, will all share reflections Goldsmiths’ 120 years of imagination, courage, and community.
