Vicki is a lecturer in primary English education. She joined the department at Goldsmiths in September 2017. She previously worked at London South Bank University as a senior lecturer and primary English lead for UG and PG education courses.

Vicki’s research interests centre on creativity and English teaching in the Early years and primary classroom. She is also interested in constructs of femininity in children’s literature and ways of exploring this with young children. She is committed to engaging and enthusing primary teachers to inspire in children a love for language and literacy.

Vicki has had extensive experience of teaching in London primary schools with responsibility for developing art, design and English across schools. She is a trained Reading Recovery teacher. Vicki was deputy head teacher of a Lambeth primary school. She is currently a school governor in a local Lewisham primary school.

Academic Qualifications

  • BA Hons in History of Art and Film Studies at University of East Anglia, 1986
  • PGCE EY and Primary at Sussex University, 1987
  • MA in education at the Institute of Education, London 1995

Teaching

Vicki has had extensive experience of developing and leading Early Years and primary English modules for undergraduate and postgraduate courses.

She is currently teaching primary English on the School Direct and provider led PGCE courses at Goldsmiths. She also contributes to teaching on the Professional Studies, SPIRE and Children’s Literature courses as well as supporting students whilst on teaching practice.
