Dawn Walton is an award-winning director of theatre, film, radio, and television, with nearly 30 years as an artist and cultural leader.

Born and raised in Crofton Park, south-east London, she enrolled on Goldsmiths’ BA in Drama and Theatre Arts after 12 years in the commercial sector, setting her on the path to becoming a leading theatre-maker. 

She founded Eclipse Theatre Company, the UK’s principal Black-led touring company, transforming the visibility of Black artists and stories nationally.  

Acclaimed theatre credits include The Death of a Black Man, Antigone, The Gift, Black Men Walking, and salt, which she also directed for BBC4 (winning the 2022 Grierson Award for Best Arts Documentary) and the 10by10 film series for The Space/BBC. 

Named by The Stage in 2019 as one of British theatre’s most influential figures, she was appointed OBE in 2020.
