I loved the freedom to experiment - it allowed for curiosity to be at the heart of the degree.
Supportive staff and freedom to experiment
I came to Goldsmiths from drama school, where I studied BA Drama, Applied Theatre and Education.
While MA Visual Anthropology was a natural next step for my interests, it was also quite different from what I'd studied before.
The staff were incredibly supportive, even arranging extra lectures from other courses to help me build the contextual knowledge I needed. I loved the freedom to experiment - it allowed for curiosity to be at the heart of the degree.
A lively area
I fell in love with New Cross and Deptford and feel so lucky to continue living here. While doing my degree, I expanded my skill set by doing a music production course at Midi Music Company studios just down the road.
I continue to be surrounded by similar projects, opportunities and cool things going on all the time, as well as active organising spaces in this area.
Advice for future students
Don't be shy to utilise the spaces and opportunities available to you at Goldsmiths as much as possible! If I could go back, I would have experimented more with the expansive media equipment at Goldsmiths.
Also, friendships are just as critically (if not more) important than academic feedback. Getting to know my course mates, skill-sharing, and receiving as well as giving feedback on each other's projects were such vital parts of the learning process.
I am so grateful to have had such a supportive cohort and to have built critical friendships I intend to maintain for future projects.
Final project
For my final project, I created a 20-minute documentary following SE-London-based theatre company, 'Moi Ko.'
With one of the company members being held on remand in prison for political activism against the ongoing genocide of Palestinian people, the film observes how Moi Ko navigates what it means to be an artist/culture-worker within the fight for justice and freedom for Palestine.

Life after Goldsmiths
Since gaining confidence as a filmmaker and artist, I intend to continue telling stories and use filmmaking as a tool for social justice.
Right now, I want to keep working on the film I produced for my Master's degree and enter it into festivals. The message is important, and I want it to be seen by as many people as possible.
