Living and Learning in Two Languages and Cultures: An Ethnographically Informed Study of Arab Children in Weekend Community Schools, and the Role of Language Repertoire and Ideologies in their Academic Achievement.
My research focuses on the role of Community Schools in supporting young people to preserve their heritage language and cultural identity.
I aim to examine how these schools can foster supportive, culturally rich learning environments by exploring pedagogical approaches and effective teaching strategies. With a particular emphasis on instructional methods tailored to the needs of bilingual and multilingual learners, this study seeks to demonstrate how educators can promote language retention, cultural awareness, and a strong sense of belonging. Ultimately, the research highlights the vital contribution of community schools in strengthening linguistic and cultural continuity for future generations.
