During my time at Goldsmiths, I had good supervisors. I don't think there were any surprises - I knew several people who had been doing creative writing PhDs and they were very happy at Goldsmiths.

Working out how to write the critical commentary helped me to organise my thinking.

Doing a creative PhD, get your ideas about the critical commentary worked out early, and start writing it early, even if you have a lot of creative writing to do.

My favourite part of studying in South East London was it was easy for me to get to on the Overground from Dalston. A few years ago it would have been a much more difficult journey.

I had a favourite Turkish cafe to go to, but it closed towards the end of my time. The bookshop is excellent. It's a great area.

The poetry collection 'My Tin Watermelon' was created as my PhD project, and published by Salt in August 2019 before the PhD itself was completed (the book is identical to the final submission).
