Hazel is interested in how the lived experiences of student teachers can be used as a resource in teacher education.
Hazel is the Head of Initial Teacher Education. She has extensive experience of Initial Teacher Education, having worked in the sector for almost 20 years, before joining Goldsmiths.
Hazel started her career in education as a primary school teacher, holding various whole school responsibilities including primary science lead and acting deputy head. Hazel has led PGCE courses in universities and school-based provision. She has an interest in quality assurance and has worked as an ITT Policy Advisor for the DfE.

Teaching and supervision
Hazel teaches on all modules of the primary PGCE course. She teaches sessions on assessment as part of the Professional Studies module; she teaches a session on social class and education as part of the SPIRE module and she teaches primary science on the Curriculum Studies module.

Research interests
Hazel has completed research which explores how the experiences of student teachers who grew up in challenging socio-economic circumstances can be used a a resource in Initial Teacher Education programmes. She is interested in narrative research and how techniques such as drawing and film making can be used a vehicle for reflection in auto-ethnographical research.
