Design Design and the Social Construction of AI
This research explores the way design is complicit in the social construction of socio-technical imaginaries of Artificial Intelligence and how critical practice in design can be deployed as an antagonist of, or in proposing alternatives to, the status quo socio-technical imaginaries of AI. It untangles the role of design in constructing, reinforcing or challenging and critiquing status quo imaginaries of AI. It provides tangible examples and strategies, tested through practice so that future design practitioners can be more critically engaged with their own positions in working with and towards AI futures.
