Kate Norbury trained as a film editor with the BBC and worked for many years with the Liverpool writer Alan Bleasdale before completing the MA in Creative Writing (Prose Fiction) at UEA. Her first book The Fish Ladder (published by Bloomsbury in 2015) combines travelogue, memoir and nature writing.

Her MPhil/PhD creative project will include an oral history of the English Circus, offering a snapshot of the circus community along with a meditation on ‘place’ in the life of a nomadic community.

The critical companion piece examines the way in which current legislation on privacy affects the working methods, freedom of expression and artistic integrity of life writers.
