Department Psychology

"I first found out about Goldsmiths from a friend who loved it there. The more I learned about it the more sure I became that it was the place for me. I wanted to get away from the 'bubble' I was in at school and broaden my horizons. Goldsmiths – with its liberal, open-minded, and multicultural community – appealed to me. I was particularly struck by the 's goal of inspiring Goldsmiths students to 'change the world' through debates, campaigns etc. I am interested in the politics of socialism and striving towards a more equal society. Goldsmiths seemed to share my aim, so I applied to do my Psychology degree there.

Before I came to Goldsmiths I was studying A-levels in Philosophy, Chemistry and Biology, which have come in handy doing a Psychology degree as the subject is tougher than I expected! Lots of complex lab reports! But I'm learning useful skills and I will come out of Goldsmiths highly trained. Also, studying psychology, I have been able to try and help friends I've met with their emotional problems. When I graduate I hope to train as a clinical psychologist, hopefully to work with adolescents.

Generally I am finding the Psychology course rewarding and engaging. I am enjoying the course content and the lecturers are good fun and very inspiring. The whole university is lively, interesting and supportive.

Life at Goldsmiths is great; there's such a good vibe. It's a creative place to be, whether you are studying art/music or not. There are lots of friendly people, from diverse backgrounds, you never feel the odd one out. There is something for everyone at Goldsmiths, loads of societies and clubs.

Goldsmiths is a place that makes you think. It is liberal and broad-minded and has students from all different cultural and social backgrounds and all different income brackets. Goldsmiths embraces everyone equally, and its ethos rubs off on you as a student here."

While at Goldsmiths I have become even more aware of the huge degree of inequality in our society as well as internationally. I have an ongoing project, centred on political philosophy, which I pursue in my own time (at the moment it largely consists of reading and thinking!). Hopefully my continuing interest in the politics of socialism might lead me to extend my 'project' to include like-minded students at Goldsmiths, and ultimately to an involvement in politics at some level, at some future point in my life."
