Exploring the integration of gerontechnology with social care and social prescribing to advance ageing-in-place among older adults; insights from the English longitudinal study of ageing
The research is an investigation to determine the optimal interplay of; Gerontechnology, Social Care and Social Prescribing to advance Aging-in-Place initiatives for Older Adults ageing-in-place, whose population is increasing rapidly and approaching 25% of global population (United Nations World Social Report 2023).
The demographic shift presents challenge for ageing populations and governments and require, innovative approaches from policymakers and practitioners to enhance the independence, safety, wellbeing and quality of life of older adults, ageing-in-place in their own homes or within their communities. Although, the integration of Gerontechnology into Social Care and Social Prescribing offers a multi-dimensional solution, the interplay of these interventions and their combined impact has been largely under explored.
This gap presents a justification for this research, aimed to provide actionable insights and policy recommendations that optimise care strategies, ensure higher quality of life and improved aging in place outcomes for older adults.
Researcher biography
Ifeanyi Gerald Esogwa is a seasoned professional with robust academic background and extensive industry knowledge in; Commercial and Corporate Banking, Project and Management Consultancy. He holds a Bachelor of Technology Degree in Agricultural Economics and Extension from the Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO), which he earned in 1997. In 2004, he completed an MBA in FUTO, specialising in Financial Administration. He furthered earned a Masters in Science, Economics at the University of Lagos completed in 2020. He was awarded Fellowships of the Institute of Management Consultants (IMC) and the Certified Pension Institute of Nigeria (CPIN).
He is currently pursuing a PhD in Social Work at Goldsmiths. Ifeanyi has held Managerial roles in commercial and corporate banking, working with Zenith Bank Plc and Oceanic Bank International Limited. He was a key member of the project teams that led the restructuring and repositioning of former New Nigeria Bank and African Continental Bank Limited. Additionally, he contributed significantly to the establishment of Planet Bottling Company Limited and played a pivotal role in launching the first canning line in Nigeria at Phama Deko Plc. A versatile professional, Ifeanyi has attended several courses in Banking, Finance, Marketing, Lending, International Trade, enhancing his expertise. Currently he serves as the CEO of Reflux Consult Limited.
