Studying my Masters at Goldsmiths was a genuinely positive experience and without a doubt, the people here were a huge part of that.
Supportive tutors
Studying my Masters at Goldsmiths was a genuinely positive experience and without a doubt, the people here were a huge part of that.
My experience within the department was especially shaped by Doireann Larkin, who was absolutely outstanding. Her support and insight made a real difference.
There wasn’t anything that surprised me particularly; I just really enjoyed the chance to fully immerse myself in a subject I love.
Academic depth and space to explore
The course gave me the academic depth I was looking for through the research, the assignments, and the space to explore complex ideas. It helped me understand the subject on a much deeper level.
More than anything, it strengthened both my knowledge and confidence in ways that will always stay with me.
Excellent transport links
Having lived in London my whole life, one of my favourite things about studying in New Cross and South East London was the outstanding transport links. With buses, trains, and the DLR nearby, it’s incredibly easy to get around.
Also, the coffee at the Goldsmiths Students’ Union is awesome.
Life after Goldsmiths
I’ve been running my own company for the last 12 years as a freelance National Domestic Abuse Consultant and have recently relaunched it under a new name. I’ll soon be starting new contracts with local authorities, continuing the work I’ve been doing for over a decade.
I really enjoy the variety and the impact of what I do, particularly working directly with professionals to improve responses to domestic abuse and influence meaningful change.
Looking ahead, I see continued growth for the company, expanding the work I do with local authorities and organisations nationally, and continuing to develop training, consultancy, and resources that make a real difference.
Advice for future students
My advice would be to never underestimate what you are capable of. Studying at university is not easy and it will challenge you in many ways.
However, it’s important to believe in yourself and remember that anything is possible if you put your mind to it, and if it’s something that you really want.
The support you’ll receive will be able to carry you through.
