Having submitted my final assignments, I was left in utter disbelief but also confusion; in the back of my mind, I felt as though I still had something left to do. It took me a while to adjust to this new reality and the fact that I’d be graduating soon. As an institution, Goldsmiths can support you while you are experiencing the ‘graduate blues’ and can help you to identify potential future endeavours.
Take up a Masters degree
Some students opt to study a Masters degree in their chosen subject once they’ve completed their undergraduate degree. Goldsmiths offers a range of different specialist degree options and there’s a 10% fee deduction available for alumni applicants. There’s also a variety of scholarships and fee waivers that you can apply for.
Look for an internship or job
For me, the Careers Service did an excellent job of promoting the various internship and job opportunities available. On CareerSPACE, you can tailor your results to find something that particularly interests you. Additionally, you can book an appointment for a CV check or interview practice, which is extremely valuable and helpful. Here, the team can provide you with feedback to support you before your actual interview takes place.
Continue to make use of the Careers Service
The Careers Service can provide you with the support and advice necessary to gain new skills, experience and jobs, even once you’ve graduated. When you book your tickets for graduation, you can specify what you’re planning on doing after you graduate so the team can provide tailored support to you.
Speak to your lecturers or the Wellbeing Service
If you have any anxieties about graduating, don’t hesitate to get in touch with your lecturers or the Wellbeing Service. They are here to listen and can offer support. I have received lots of great advice during the past year, from a range of different lecturers. They have been nothing but supportive and attentive, and the same applies to the Wellbeing Service, who have supported me throughout my journey at Goldsmiths.
